For Travelers

  • Browsing ALL SCENES or another one of the scene menus, you may find someplace intriguing to visit on your next ramble!   For a geographic index of reference locations by state/province, see below on this page.
  • The full scene description reached by clicking any photo or title on a menu will introduce a type of landscape feature that can be found in many similar landscape regions around the world.  Making a goal to sometime visit a cirque, a braided stream, a tor, or a place with glacial grooves can lead to new online search strategies in planning your travel routes.
  • The Reference Location section at the end of each scene description provides a locator map and other access information for the specific place that is shown in the photos and is source for some of the description's Key Details.  While a few of these locations are difficult to access, many are in state or national parks, or in commercial tourist sites, where support of public visitation is an explicit goal.
  • When we visit a striking landscape scene, we look for reasons to spend extended time there - a couple of hours rather than twenty minutes, or even allow for a second visit at a different time of day.  It's a chance to absorb the scene more fully; to spend reflection time in a place where we can more fully feel the pulse of the earth.  Aside from a rest time from walking or pause for a picnic, there can also be some explicitly creative ways to linger in a scene: making detailed observations (what has become some of our source material for this website) or by spinning a tale set there, with your companions.
